In both the earlier Lok Sabha elections, the BJP achieved a clean sweep in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s homeland.
According to sources, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to continue its dominance in Gujarat, winning all 26 Lok Sabha seats if elections were held today.
This forecast follows the BJP’s clean sweep in the previous two Lok Sabha elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.
Congress Facing Decline in Gujarat
The survey indicates that the Congress is likely to witness a decrease in its vote share, potentially dropping to around 26 percent from the 32 percent it secured in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Steady Performance for BJP-Led NDA
Contrastingly, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to maintain its current vote share of 62 percent. Independents and smaller parties are projected to collectively secure approximately 12 percent of the votes.
Preparation and Momentum for BJP
The BJP had initiated preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls following its remarkable victory in the 2022 Assembly election, where it secured 156 out of 182 seats, marking its seventh consecutive win in Gujarat.
Last year, BJP Gujarat president CR Paatil urged party workers to ensure victory in all 26 parliamentary seats in the state by a significant margin.
Historical Context of BJP’s Dominance
The BJP has historically maintained its hegemony in Gujarat. In 1998, the party secured 19 of the 26 seats, followed by 20 seats in 1999.
Despite setbacks such as the Godhra riots of 2002, which led to a reduction to 14 seats in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP gradually regained strength, securing 15 seats in 2009. Since then, the party has consistently won all 26 Lok Sabha seats.
Factors Contributing to BJP’s Success
The BJP’s impressive performance in Gujarat can be attributed to various factors including the influence of Hindutva politics, the charismatic leadership of Narendra Modi, and the state’s economic prosperity. These elements have contributed to the BJP’s enduring dominance in the western state.
