N. Chandrababu Naidu’s successful meeting with Bill Gates emphasized his efforts to establish Hyderabad as a technological hub.
N. Chandrababu Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is set to be sworn in today as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time.
Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief J.P. Nadda, will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Celebratory Messages and Congratulations:
Amit Shah posted on X (formerly Twitter), “I met the Chief Minister-designate of Andhra Pradesh, Shri @ncbn Garu, in Vijayawada and congratulated him on the NDA’s massive victory. I’m looking forward to attending the oath-taking ceremony tomorrow.”
Chandrababu Naidu first assumed the role of Chief Minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1995. His tenure has been observed by significant contributions, particularly in transforming Hyderabad into a major technology hub.
Naidu and Bill Gates the Rise of Hyderabad as a Tech Hub:
His successful engagement with Microsoft founder Bill Gates highlighted Naidu’s efforts to develop Hyderabad as a technology center. During the AP AgTech Summit in 2017, Naidu recounted how he secured an appointment with Gates in the late 1990s. Gates was in New Delhi, and although initially reluctant, he agreed to meet Naidu.
Naidu claimed he was the first Indian politician to present using a laptop, which impressed Gates. Initially scheduled for 10 minutes, the meeting was extended to 40 minutes due to the engaging discussion.
Bill Gates was reportedly impressed by Naidu’s vision and commitment to digital technology. Gates shared his impression of Naidu, stating, “I was told that there is someone who believes in digital technology even more than you do. It was hard to believe, but when we met, he had his digital equipment—a computer—and he had the vision to make the government better by using advanced tools.”
Establishment of Bill Gates in Hyderabad:
Following the meeting, Gates promised to consider Hyderabad for Microsoft’s center outside the US.
As a result, the Microsoft India Development Centre was established in Hyderabad in 1998. This decision not only bolstered Hyderabad’s status as an IT hub but also saw Satya Nadella, a native of the region, eventually become the CEO of Microsoft.
