Chinese App TikTok ban in it’s own country read why

TikTok, the short video app from China, is facing backlash throughout the globe. The short video app is banned in several countries, such as India, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Belgium and many more, and now it’s trying hard to prevent itself from banning in the United States. The Senate has voted to restrict TikTok from all government gadgets.

Shou Chew, the CEO of TikTok, was questioned by US senators on Thursday. Washington, DC, has already warned ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell shares or risk being banned in the country.

But did you realise that this popular app is not available in China? You might be startled to learn that TikTok never existed in China. Douyin is a distinct version of the software.

ByteDance created both TikTok and Douyin, but the former was released in 2016 and quickly became a viral success, according to CNN. Here’s how the two apps are similar yet not the same.

1. Douyin has an automatic beauty filter that can smooth out skin and adjust the form of a person’s face. TikTok, on the other hand, does not have such a feature. Users can select beauty filters when filming here.

2. Douyin is regarded as a platform for live streamers, which sets it apart from TikTok. In mainland China, live streaming product sales is a multibillion-dollar industry.

3. China is well-known for its strict censorship policy, with popular apps like Douyin succumbing. CNN stated that the search keyword ‘Tiananmen 1989’ on Douyin produced no results.

However, a search for the same term on TikTok yields videos of viewers discussing the People’s Liberation Army’s harsh crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing that year.

4. Douyin has a rigorous policy for young users as well. Children under 14 can only view child-safe content and only use the app for 40 minutes each day.

They cannot use the app between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. TikTok, on the other side, announced that users under 18 will have their accounts default to a one-hour daily screen time limit. However, adolescent users will be able to disable this feature.
