The laborer was saved after being tangled for hours after an under-construction medical college building in Gujarat’s Morbi tumbled.
On Friday evening, a section of an under-construction medical college building in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed, resulting in injuries to four workers. Another labourer remained trapped for over seven hours before being safely rescued in the early hours of Saturday.
Incident Details
The collapse occurred around 8:00 pm while workers were engaged in roof filling on the first floor of the new building. According to police officials, the slab of the under-construction college collapsed suddenly, causing injuries to the workers.
Rescue Efforts
Upon receiving the alert, officials, along with college authorities, promptly responded to the scene to assess the situation and provide immediate aid.

Devendra Singh Jadeja, a fire officer from Morbi, stated that the fire station received a call about the collapse, following which the rescue team arrived and successfully rescued four individuals.
Intensive Rescue Operation
After extensive efforts, rescue teams managed to extricate the trapped labourer from the debris. The individual was trapped with only his face visible, requiring meticulous efforts to free him.
Eventually, around 3:00 am, he was successfully rescued and promptly referred to a hospital for medical attention.
Injured Workers Hospitalized
All the injured workers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Calls for Accountability
Expressing concern over the incident, Morbi MLA Durlabhjibhai Dethariya called for accountability to be established for the contractor and officials involved in the construction.
He emphasized the need for the government to take action against those responsible, whether it be the contractor or officials overseeing the project.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols in construction projects to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
