Congress Accuses Centre of Politicizing Rahul Gandhi’s Security

The Congress party has launched a fierce attack on the central government following a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) letter highlighting security protocol violations by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi during his international travels.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera questioned the timing of the CRPF communication, suggesting it was politically motivated. “The timing and the way this content of this so-called letter have emerged through the media raises very important questions,” Khera stated, alleging the government was nervous about Gandhi’s “vote chori” campaign.

Security Lapses Across Multiple Countries

The CRPF letter detailed Gandhi’s failure to follow mandatory security procedures during visits to Italy, Vietnam, Dubai, Qatar, London, and Malaysia. Despite enjoying Z+ security cover with an Advance Security Liaison team, Gandhi allegedly skipped protective measures on multiple occasions, weakening VVIP security effectiveness.

Under the “Yellow Book” protocol, high-security protectees must inform their security wing about all movements, including international tours, to ensure adequate safety arrangements. The force expressed “serious concerns” about Gandhi’s safety due to these repeated lapses.

Political Tensions Escalate

Khera criticized the BJP’s response, questioning whether it constituted a threat against Gandhi, who has lost two family members to violence. “Do not make the issue of the security of the LoP, especially a person who has lost two family members, a political issue,” he emphasized.

The controversy comes amid ongoing political tensions, with Congress planning protests against Prime Minister Modi’s Varanasi visit. UP Congress president Ajay Rai claimed he was placed under house arrest to prevent demonstrations, further escalating the political standoff between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party.
