Following its defeat in Bihar Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress has intensified its criticism of the Election Commission, alleging that the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is being weaponized to systematically delete votes of specific communities across multiple states. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi convened a high-level review meeting at Indira Bhawan in Delhi with senior party leaders from 12 states and union territories to address what they describe as deliberate misconduct by the electoral authority.

Election Commission Accused of “Complicity of Silence”

Kharge accused the Election Commission of “deeply disappointing conduct” during the revision exercise, demanding it demonstrate it is not operating under the BJP’s influence. He alleged the ruling party is attempting to “weaponise” the SIR process for “vote theft,” warning that Congress workers would remain vigilant to expose attempts to delete genuine voters or add fraudulent ones. Senior party leader KC Venugopal echoed these concerns, stating there is consensus across states that the Election Commission is “intentionally trying to delete the votes of certain sections of society.”

Congress Plans December Rally at Ramlila Maidan

The Congress announced plans for a massive rally in early December at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to expose what party leaders characterize as systemic electoral manipulation. The party has collected five crore signatures in a nationwide campaign defending voter rights. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera cited five Supreme Court orders allegedly reflecting the Election Commission’s questionable approach, emphasizing that the irregularities flagged before Bihar elections are now being replicated across other states, raising serious democratic concerns.
