  1.  Police registered an FIR at the NM Joshi Marg police station against Republic TV editor-in-chief Goswami, his wife as well as their son.
  2. At present, anticipatory bail petitions have only been filed by Goswami and Ray.

On Tuesday, a Mumbai court will hear pre-arrest bail petitions filed by senior journalist Arnab Goswami as well as his wife Samyabrata Ray for allegedly assaulting a female police officer in a criminal case lodged by the Mumbai police against the pair.

FIR against Arnab Goswami’s Family:

Police registered an FIR at the NM Joshi Marg police station against Republic TV editor-in-chief Goswami, his wife as well as their son.

On the morning of November 4, the suspected “assault” took place when a police team went to Goswami’s residence to arrest him in relation to an alleged suicidal case in 2018.

At present, anticipatory bail petitions have only been filed by Goswami and Ray. They were charged under sections 353 (assault to prevent a public servant from discharging his duty), 504 (intentional provocation to cause a breach of peace) and 500up (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under the Law on Harm to Public Property.

On November 12, the day after the Supreme Court granted Goswami interim bail, the Sessions Court adjourned the bail plea hearing to November 23, which was later adjourned to December 1.

The Reopened case of 2018 on Arnab:

The case involves the alleged death in May 2018 of interior designer Anvay Naik and his girlfriend, Kumud Naik, by suicide.

Naik had accused Goswami as well as two others of not jointly paying his dues equal to Rs 5.40 crore in his suicide note.

Although the case was dropped last year after Naik’s daughter approached Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh earlier this year it was reopened.

Arnab was in judicial custody:

Arnab was detained last month in connection with this case and taken to a municipal school of Alibaug, where he was held in judicial custody.

Later on, for allegedly using a cell phone while in jail, he was sent to Taloja prison in the Raigad district.
