Fresh 48,512 Coronavirus cases and 768 deaths registered in the last 24 hours; UP tops the testing charts.

India’s COVID-19 tally on Wednesday breached the 15-lakh mark and reached at 1,531,669 cases, just two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark. Fresh 48,512 coronavirus cases along with 768 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours. This is the fifth consecutive day in the country when the number of daily cases has been above the 47,000-mark. The death toll in the country rose to 34,193.

Recovery rate improves:

As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 988,029 patients have been treated and discharged so far, and the total number of active cases in the nation are 509,447. This means that the recovery rate in the country has improved to 64.51 percent.

Uttar Pradesh leads the testing numbers:

Uttar Pradesh, yesterday, became the first state to test more than one lakh samples a day for COVID-19. UP are now on the second position in India in terms of testing samples, overtaking the worst-Coronavirus-affected state, Maharashtra in the process. However, the most number of tests have been conducted by Tamil Nadu, at 24.14 lakh samples so far. Daily testing numbers in India have risen to more than five lakh and as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 17,743,740 samples have been tested till the 28th of July.

Global Coronavirus cases cross 16.7 million:

Globally over 16.7 million people have been infected with the deadly virus, while more than 659,000 patients have passed away. Since the first Coronavirus case, which was recorded in Wuhan, China, last December, more than 210 countries and territories have reported cases of the novel COVID-19 virus.
