CP Radhakrishnan Takes Oath as 15th Vice President September 12

Vice President-elect Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan is set to take the oath of office on September 12, 2025, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath during the morning ceremony, officially inducting Radhakrishnan as India’s 15th Vice President.

Auspicious Timing Selected for Ceremony

According to senior NDA sources, the oath ceremony timing was carefully chosen based on astrological considerations. “The oath ceremony of the newly elected Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will take place on the morning of 12th September, as the time has been found auspicious by the pandit ji,” confirmed a top NDA official. Invitations for the prestigious ceremony will be extended to senior leaders across the National Democratic Alliance.

Radhakrishnan secured his position through a decisive electoral victory on Tuesday, garnering 452 votes against his opponent, former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. The election witnessed remarkable participation, with 767 out of 781 Members of Parliament casting their ballots, achieving a turnout rate of 98.2 percent.

Cross-Voting Speculation Emerges

Rajya Sabha Secretary General and Returning Officer PC Mody announced that 752 ballots were deemed valid while 15 were declared invalid, adjusting the required majority threshold to 377 first preference votes. Notably, the NDA candidate exceeded expectations by securing 14 additional votes beyond the anticipated count, raising speculation about potential cross-voting from Opposition members. While the NDA commanded support from 427 MPs on paper, an additional 11 lawmakers from the YSRCP also backed Radhakrishnan’s candidacy, contributing to his comprehensive victory margin.
