NEET 2020 results: Akansha Singh from Delhi obtained 720 out of 720 marks in the NEET medical entrance exam but missed the top rank to Soyeb Aftab of Odisha because of her younger age, which would be one of the factors accounted for in the tie-breaking policy of the National Testing Agency.

The tie-breaking policy, as per the officials, takes into account variables such as age, subject-specific marks, and the number of wrong answers.

Initially, the candidate’s ranking is calculated based on the scores obtained in biology and chemistry. Accordingly, in cases where candidates are unable to be shortlisted using the scores obtained during the test, candidates are further shortlisted, taking into account the number of incorrect responses, which are then shortlisted similar to their age. The older one gets the option, explained the official.

With over 7.7 lakh candidates qualifying for the exam, the outcome of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was declared on Friday night.

For determining more grades, the same tie-breaking policy has been used.

Students scored 715 out of 720:

715 out of 720 marks were achieved by Tummala Snikitha (Telangana), Vineet Sharma (Rajasthan), Guthi Chaitanya Sindhu (Andhra Pradesh), and Amrisha Khaitan (Haryana). Nonetheless, they were ranked third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.

Likewise, 710 marks were scored by those ranked from 8th to 20th, and 705 out of 720 marks were scored by those ranked from 25th to 50. The examination was carried out in the midst of strict precautions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic on 13 September.

NEET will also be admitted to MBBS from this year:

From this year, NEET will also be admitted to the MBBS course in 13 All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, despite the provision passed by Parliament last year during the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.

This year, the exam was offered in eleven languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Urdu. More than 77 percent of applicants took the test in English, about 12 percent in Hindi, and 11 percent in those other languages, regarding the initial report.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the examination was previously postponed twice and the government agreed to go ahead with it, despite objections by a section, to avoid any further academic losses.
