DK Shivakumar on why he accepted Deputy CM post

DK Shivakumar on why he accepted Deputy CM post

DK Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress head, announced on Thursday that he has accepted to become deputy chief minister in the wider interests of the Congress.

“The Congress party has made a promise to the people of Karnataka. Parliamentary elections are on the horizon.

As a result, I must bow to the AICC president and the Gandhi family in the wider interest of the party (I have agreed to the formula), and why not because the ice should be broken now and then? “Ultimately, there is a responsibility to deliver on what we have promised to the people of Karnataka,” Shivakumar added.

The Congress has named Siddaramaiah Karnataka’s chief minister, breaking days of uncertainty after the party won the assembly election with 135 seats. The decision was made shortly after midnight, according to the sources.

DK Suresh, Shivakumar’s brother, stated, “I am not completely satisfied, but for the sake of Karnataka, we wanted to meet our vow…That is why DK Shivakumar had no choice but to agree.

We shall see in the future that there is still a long way to go. I wished that (the CM seat for DK Shivakumar), but it did not materialise; we must wait and watch.”

The 61-year-old Vokkaliga leader, known as the party’s “troubleshooter,” had stood firm during negotiations with the party’s top command, which was stepping carefully to create a perfect balance of power between the two veterans.

According to the reports, DK Shivakumar was offered the position of deputy chief minister as well as six responsibilities.

However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has urged his party leaders not to make any statements until they receive formal confirmation.
