US President Joe Biden ended the ‘Muslim travel ban’ early Wednesday in a blow to the actions of his predecessor Donald Trump to restrict immigration, which prevented travel from many mainly Muslim as well as African countries to the United States.
End of Muslim Travel Ban in the USA:
On Wednesday, hours after entering office, Biden signed 17 memorandums as well as proclamations of executive orders, including lifting the Muslim travel ban.
The New York Times announced that he ordered the State Department to resume visa processing for citizens from the affected countries and to develop ways to mitigate the damage caused for those that were barred from coming to the United States since of the ban.
The Muslim Ban, implemented in 2017 after Trump’s first week in office, initially banned travel from 7 Muslim countries Sudan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.
According to the report by NPR:
There were numerous legal challenges facing the ban, but the Supreme Court approved the final version of the law in 2018.
Thus far, the Muslim travel ban has prohibited citizens of 12 countries—Iran, Nigeria, Myanmar, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan, Tanzania as well as North Korea certain Venezuelan officials, and also their families from obtaining a wide range of U.S. visas, as mentioned by NPR.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy was improved by Biden:
Biden also sponsored the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals initiative with yet another executive order, which protects immigrants admitted to the United States as infants, also called Dreamers, of deportation.
Another executive order reversed the proposal of the Trump administration to exempt non-citizens from the survey count as well as another reverses the executive order of Trump that pushed vigorous measures to identify and expel undocumented immigrants.
Biden has also stopped construction of Trump’s border wall with Mexico:
The construction of Trump’s border wall with Mexico was also halted by Biden. The order involves the “immediate termination” of its national emergency declaration that authorized billions of dollars to be diverted to the wall by the Trump administration.
