Harley Davidson taxes: Donald Trump has threatened to hit a standard tax on India if he is elected back into office in the 2024 US Presidential Elections.

Ex-US President Donald Trump, striving for another term, has raised the issue of high taxes imposed by India on select American products, including Harley-Davidson bikes.

Trump has even threatened to levy a reciprocal tax on India if he is elected back into office in the 2024 US Presidential Elections. In an interview with Fox Business News, Larry Kudlow stated that during his time as President, he came down heavily on India’s tax rates, which he alleged were relatively high.

“The other thing I want is a matching tax where, if India charges us — India is huge with tariffs. I mean, I saw it with Harley. I was saying, how do you do in a place like India? Oh, no, good sir. Why? They have 100 per cent and 150 per cent and 200 per cent tariffs,” Trump said.

During this interview, he even recounted an exchange with Harley-Davidson’s agents. Trump told Fox Business News that he asked Harley-Davidson spokespeople why the firm does not do business in India. The Trump Organisation owner said that India wants American companies to go over and make a plan to avoid high taxes.

Yet, this is not the first time that Trump has raked up the high taxes imposed by India on Harley bikes. In 2020, Trump slammed India for the high surcharges on imported bikes, specifically Harley-Davidson.

The ex-President had said that India likely has the highest taxes globally and that Harley-Davidson has to pay “tremendous” tariffs in India.
