Sooryavanshi’s DRS Wit Leaves Ishan Kishan Amused

Sooryavanshi’s DRS Wit Leaves Ishan Kishan Amused

East Zone’s long wait for a Duleep Trophy title finally ended in 2026, with the side lifting the trophy under Ishan Kishan’s captaincy. Alongside the seasoned skipper, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again drew attention, not just for his batting but for his sharp reading of DRS situations throughout the tournament.

Vice-Captain’s Sharp Reviews

Batting at the top of the order, Sooryavanshi contributed 44 runs as East Zone piled up a massive first-innings total of 708. But it was his role as vice-captain that stood out most. During the final against South Zone, the teenager pushed Kishan to review a contentious decision involving Ricky Bhui. The review vindicated his call, confirming an edge and handing East Zone a crucial wicket at a decisive stage of the match.

Kishan’s Playful Dig Backfires

Following the title win, Kishan jokingly claimed he would have opted for the review regardless, suggesting Sooryavanshi had unfairly hogged the credit. The BCCI later released a video capturing the light-hearted exchange between the two. In it, Kishan teased the young batter for building a reputation of nailing DRS calls even when the captain was reportedly already leaning that way. Sooryavanshi, unfazed, fired back with a quick, witty reply that left Kishan visibly amused and only added to the youngster’s growing popularity within the dressing room.

With the Duleep Trophy campaign behind them, both cricketers wasted little time switching focus. Kishan and Sooryavanshi have since joined the Indian team’s camp in Delhi, gearing up for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, as the teenager’s rapid rise in Indian cricket continues to gather pace.
