England to win second ODI against Australia.

By 24 runs England won the second ODI to tie its three-match series against Australia after the visitors suffered a dramatic collapse on Sunday, chasing a modest target of 232.

Australia seemed to be cruising as they reached 144 for two thanks to Captain Aaron Finch’s (73) and Marcus Labuschagne (48) third-wicket partnership of 107 before surrendering on to 207 all out.

When Chris Woakes had Labuschagne lbw, he triggered the collapse, starting a run which saw Australians lose three wickets in eleven deliveries for one run.

England captain Eoin Morgan said
“That’s as good as we’ve been bowling for a while. “We took advantage of the weather, the ball bounced a little backward, and went up and down. Our party of four-seamers was excellent.

England also got off the hook in the process of their own innings. Chosen to bat after winning the toss, they ambled along with Joe Root needing 73 balls for his 39 at a pedestrian pace.

They looked like they were in real trouble at 149-8 but then hit 53 runs with Adil Rashid (36) and Tom Curran (37) adding 76 for the ninth wicket in the final four overs.

In Australia’s innings, Archer made two early breakthroughs, when Jos Buttler trapped David Warner and Marcus Stoinis to leave Australia at 37-2.

But Finch — who has been survived from a run-out in the first over — and Labuschagne appeared to have taken over Australia, causing Morgan to take back Archer and Woakes to the offensive.

It paid dividends as Woakes eliminated Labuschagne, Finch and Glenn Maxwell while Archer cast Mitchell Marsh on 147-6 to leave reeling Australia.

Alex Carey held Australia in contention, though slowly moving as they managed one boundary in a 16-over spell, before stumping Rashid in the final over.

“England has been pushing us-they have bowled a very nice pace. Hitting limits was hard, but I am still really disappointed,

“Finch said.”As the match went on, it was getting harder, but that is no justification for the collapse. It was probably not the biggest match for the audience, but it was nice to see an even match between bat and ball.
