Shravan is about to start, and devotees observe Sawan Somwar fasts and seek Lord Shiva’s blessings for health, wealth, and their wishes.
While unmarried girls fast to find a good match, married women pray for marital happiness. Due to Mal Maas, Shrawan, this year has been extended to two months rather than the normal one.
As a result, the month of Sawan will begin on July 4 and end on August 31, lasting 59 days. There will be eight Sawan Somvaars or Sawan Mondays instead of four.
Because July 4 falls on a Tuesday, the first Sawan fast will be observed on July 10 and the last on August 28.
When fasting during Sawan Somwar, staying hydrated and eating nutritious vrat-friendly foods rather than deep-fried and sweet dishes is important.
One should also get enough rest and consume probiotics to support gut health.
Dietician Kanika Malhotra, Founder of Health Astronomy, and Functional Nutritionist Mugdha Pradhan, CEO and Founder of iThrive, discuss healthy food ideas for Sawan Somwaar fasting.
Here are some fasting tips for Sawan Somwar:
It is critical to be hydrated to start your day on the right foot. Hydrating beverages such as coconut water, lemon water, homemade iced tea, or buttermilk are recommended. These drinks replace electrolytes and keep you hydrated all day.
Consuming fruit is a quick and healthy approach to increasing your energy levels when fasting. Bananas are a great choice because they are high in natural sugars and potassium and provide quick energy.
Nuts are an excellent source of both energy and important elements. Almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and figs can be included in a fasting diet. These nuts include healthy fats, proteins, and dietary fibre, keeping you full and energised.
Consuming a well-balanced lunch that keeps the stomach full and cool is critical. Curd is a probiotic-rich dish that can be combined with a bowl of fruits for optimal benefit. This mixture gives the body important nutrition, improves digestion, and keeps it cool.
After a long period of abstinence, breaking the fast demands vigilance. Heavy foods that can cause serious digestive issues should be avoided. To aid digestion, eat in moderation and choose lighter options.
Fasting causes stress in the body and elevates cortisol levels. Avoid stressful or triggering situations, which can be difficult to deal with now. Set aside time for relaxation.
Sabudana, though commonly consumed during and after a fast, is not a healthy option because it is a highly refined carbohydrate that causes blood sugar surges. Instead, fruits, dates, and raw honey are healthy carbohydrates.
