The ISRO tweeted in the first development of Chandrayaan 3 after the successful and historical soft launch on the south pole of the moon that Rover Pragyan had scaled down from the Vikram lander and started a stroll on the moon.

“Made in India, Made for the Moon, The Ch-3 Rover ramped down from the Lander, and India took a walk on the moon!” Isro wrote on Twitter.

The Rover Pragyan rolled out:

Chandrayaan 3 waited for the lunar dust to settle after a successful landing at 6.04 pm on Wednesday.

The rolling out of the Rover Pragyan, which was attached to the belly of the Vikram lander, began and was completed. Pawan K Goenka, the head of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, shared the first image of Pragyan emerging from Vikram.

Soft landing of Chandrayaan-3:

Chandrayaan 3 soft-landed on the moon’s south pole at 6:04 p.m. For the landing, it chose a flat area on the lunar surface. It transmitted a photograph of the landing spot taken by the landing imager camera.

The communication link between the Chandrayaan 3 lander and MOX-ISTRAC Bengaluru has been established. During the descent, the lander captured images of the landing and relayed them to Earth.

The process of rover Pragyan rolling out of the lander then began.

The first image of the rover leaving Vikram was relayed to Earth.

Pragyan slowed down and went for a walk.

All about the Rover:

For the following 14 days, the Pragyan rover will conduct a series of tests on the lunar surface. The rover will transmit the results to the lander. It has two payloads and weighs 26kg.

One will investigate the chemical makeup of the lunar surface, while another will investigate the elemental composition of the lunar soil and rocks surrounding the landing site.
