In response to recent safety concerns and incidents targeting foreign students, Gujarat University has requested the departure of six students from Afghanistan and one from East Africa who had overstayed in the hostel premises.
This move follows weeks after a group of foreign students was attacked for offering namaz on the premises.

An Afghan and Gambian delegation had previously visited the university to discuss safety measures with the vice-chancellor following the March 16 attack.

According to Vice-Chancellor Neerja Gupta, the students asked to vacate had completed their studies but were staying in the hostel due to pending administrative work.
