51,700 people recovered from Coronavirus in a single-day; COVID-19 tally at 19,64,536.

India, for an eight-consecutive day, reported COVID-19 infections over 50,000, with new 56,282 cases on Thursday. India’s coronavirus tally increased to 19,64,536 and the number of deaths in the country in the last 24 hours rose from 39,793 to 40,699.

The biggest single-day spike in the total number of recoveries, at 51,700:

As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, fresh 51,700 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, which took the nation’s tally of recovered patients to 13,28,336. The total number of active cases is now just over 30 percent of the total COVID-19 case count at 595,501 cases. The recovery rate in the country improved to over 67 percent.

ICMR reveals Coronavirus tests in the country rose to 2.21 crore:

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that the total number of the novel COVID-19 samples tested have risen to 2.21 crore. On Wednesday, 664,949 samples were tested and the tests per million have witnessed a spike of 15,568.

Lakshadweep, the only COVID-free region of India:

Dr Balram Bhargava, director general of ICMR, stated that phase-1 trials of two Indian vaccine candidates have completed. Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadila have now started phase-2 trials. India is the third-worst affected COVID-19 country in the world. Now, only three states have less than 1000 people infected with the fatal virus. Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands still have less than a thousand cases, while Lakshadweep is still the only region in India entirely free of the pandemic.

Globally, more than 18.7 million people have been infected with the deadly disease, and over seven lakh people have succumbed to death.
