Good news there will be drop in tomato price soon

NCCF and NAFED cooperatives will begin selling tomato at a reduced price of ₹40 per kilogramme on August 20 as the price of the kitchen staple falls in wholesale and retail markets.

To combat the price increase of tomato, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) have been selling tomatoes at a reduced price on behalf of the Consumer Affairs Ministry since last month.

The subsidised rate was initially set at 90 per kilogramme, but it was gradually reduced in line with price declines to ensure consumer benefits.

“The last downward revision of the retail price to ₹50/- per kg was on August 15, which now stands further reduced to ₹40 per kg w.e.f. August 20,” an official statement said on Friday.

According to the statement, the two agencies have bought approximately 15 lakh kilogrammes of tomatoes to date, which are being offered to retail consumers in major consumption hubs across the country.

Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj), Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan (Jaipur, Kota), and also Bihar (Patna, Muzaffarpur, Arrah, Buxar) are among the locations. The NCCF and NAFED purchase tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
