HDFC, in its annual program “the 5th Parivartan SmartUp Grants”, funded multiple social startups and incubators under their corporate social responsibility. In this edition, the bank allocated up to INR 15 crore for funding.
Their goal was to cover 12 to 15 incubators and 50 startups that are dedicated to the environment, healthcare, gender, and diversity areas. However, they surpassed this target and included agri-businesses, ed-techs, waste management, healthcare companies, and skill development as well.
SmartUp Grants are part of HDFC Bank’s bigger aim to build an ecosystem that fosters the zeal of innovation and entrepreneurship in the startup area. Further, environment conservation has been on their radar. Ashima Bhat, Group Head CSR, Business Finance and Infrastructure, HDFC Bank, said, “India needs innovative businesses to address the needs of the society. We strive to discover and nurture both start-ups and incubators working in three focus areas: Environment – Conservation of the natural world; Health – Improving Healthcare; and Gender Diversity – Improving gender equality.”
