Gujarat ATS Uncovers ₹51.4 Crore Mephedrone Operation

Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) announced on Thursday the arrest of three individuals and the uncovering of a mephedrone manufacturing operation on the outskirts of Surat city. The raid led to the takeover of drugs and materials valued at ₹51.4 crore.

Raid and Seizure by Gujarat ATS:

The ATS team raided an industrial shed in Kareli village, Palsana taluka, where they seized 4 kg of mephedrone and 31.4 kg of raw material.

The three suspects, Sunil Yadav, Vijay Gajera, and Haresh Korat, rented the facility for ₹20,000 per month to produce mephedrone, or MD. The finished product was sold to Salim Saiyad, a Mumbai-based individual.

Official Statement Gujarat ATS Inspector:

Deputy Inspector General of Police, ATS, Sunil Joshi, stated that the unit was sealed on Wednesday evening.

A preliminary probe indicated that Yadav, involved in chemical trading, learned the technique of manufacturing mephedrone from the Internet.

The three suspects then collaborated to manufacture the drug at the shed, having already delivered 4 kg of mephedrone to Saiyad previously, according to the ATS statement.

Previous Drug Racket Dismantled:

In September last year, the Gujarat police dismantled another drug racket involving four suspects, including Sunil Kaushik Sharma, who was already in Surat’s Lajpore Central Jail.

In this case, the Surat police seized 10.5 kg of processed raw material from Rajasthan capable of producing 8.5-9 kg of MD drugs worth an estimated street value of ₹8-9 crore.
