Gujarat has been experiencing heavy rainfall in recent days. The trend is expected to continue as a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan moves west-southwestward.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression has the potential to intensify into a deep depression. The IMD has issued a series of red and orange alerts for various regions in Gujarat. IMD predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from August 24 to 30.
Gujarat Rainfall Red Alerts for Several Districts:
The IMD’s latest bulletin has placed several districts under a red alert on August 25. The possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, along with isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall. The districts under red alert include:
- Surat
- Narmada
- Bharuch
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli
- Saurashtra-Kutch region: Bhavnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Kutch
These areas are expected to experience the most severe weather conditions, and authorities are advising residents to take necessary precautions.
Orange Alerts Across the State:
An orange alert, which signals the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain, has been given for several other districts from August 24 through August 30. The districts under orange alert include:
- August 25: Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Dang, Tapi, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu.
- August 26: Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and Diu.
- August 27: Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch are under red alert, while the remaining districts under the orange alert remain largely unchanged.
- August 29: Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and Diu are under orange alert.
- August 30: Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch are the only districts under an orange alert, as heavy to very heavy rains are expected.
Weather System Movement and Impact:
The IMD’s forecast, issued on August 25, indicates that the depression, currently centered over eastern Rajasthan and adjoining areas of northwest Madhya Pradesh, is moving westward at 13 km/h.
The system, located approximately 80 km west-southwest of Guna and 90 km southeast of Kota, is expected to intensify into a deep depression over eastern Rajasthan within the next 12 hours.
The depression is likely to continue its west-southwestward trajectory across southern Rajasthan and Gujarat, potentially reaching the northeast Arabian Sea near the Saurashtra and Kutch regions and the adjoining Pakistani coast by the morning of August 29.
