Introduction:

Finance Minister Kanu Desai recently presented the budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the Gujarat Assembly, emphasizing key allocations for education and tribal development. 

The budget, amounting to 3 lakh 32 thousand 465 crores, reflects the government’s commitment to social and economic development, particularly in tribal areas. Here are the highlights from the budget presentation:

Education Department Allocation:

The budget allocates a substantial provision of 55,114 crores for the education department, emphasizing the significance of investing in the state’s educational infrastructure.

Tribal Development Initiatives:

Under the Vanabandhu Kalyan Yojana, the government is actively working on schemes across various sectors to promote the social and economic development of tribal communities. 

The budget highlights efforts to create infrastructure and implement individual-oriented schemes in tribal areas.

Academic Excellence:

Several provisions have been made to enhance academic excellence, including:

  • Allocation of 735 crores for Adarsh Residential Schools, Ashramshalas, and E.M.R.S., benefiting approximately 1 lakh 52 thousand students in 837 schools.
  • Provision of 584 crores for post-matric scholarships, benefiting around 2 lakh students.
  • 539 crore plan for the construction of Adarsh Niwasi School, Government Hostel, Eklavya Model Residential School, and Girls Literacy Schools.
  • Allocation of 269 crores to support 70 thousand students in government and grant-in-aid hostels.
  • Provision of 255 crores for the construction of government hostels and ideal residential schools.

Economic Prosperity Initiatives:

The budget emphasizes economic prosperity through various schemes, including:

  • Provision of 150 crores under Dudh Sanjeev Yojana.
  • Allocation of 120 crores for uniform assistance to approximately 13 lakh 50 thousand students in classes 1 to 8.
  • Provision of 23 crores for 3,900 students under the Samaras hostels scheme.
  • Allocation of 21 crores for providing bicycles under the Vidyasadha scheme to around 39 thousand girl students in class 9.
  • Provision of 14 crores to support bright students under the Talent Pool Scheme.
  • Allocation of 6 crores for Birsa Munda Tribal University at Rajpipla.
