Gujarat Congress leader Rohan Gupta resigns, here’s why

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Congress nominee Rohan Gupta exited from Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat race due to his dad’s serious medical situation.

Gujarat Congress leader Rohan Gupta has announced his resignation from the grand old party, citing “constant humiliation” and “character assassination” by senior leaders.

This decision comes shortly after Gupta withdrew his candidature from the Ahmedabad East constituency for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Allegations of Humiliation

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gupta expressed his anguish over the treatment he received from senior Congress leaders associated with the Communication department.

He revealed that his father, who is currently battling serious health conditions, recounted instances of betrayal and sabotage endured by their family over the past 40 years.

Family Concerns and Mental Trauma

Gupta elaborated on the toll his political journey had taken on his family, particularly his father’s deteriorating health.

He described the mental trauma he endured over the past two years, attributing it to a senior leader connected with the Communication Department. Concerned for his son’s well-being, Gupta’s father urged him to prioritize his self-respect and mental health.

Resignation Decision

Driven by a desire to protect his self-respect and well-being, Gupta made the difficult decision to resign from the Congress party.

He expressed reluctance to endure further assaults on his dignity, believing that the leader responsible for his humiliation would persist in such behavior. Gupta lamented the damage inflicted on both himself and the party by the leader’s arrogant and rude conduct.

Withdrawal from Lok Sabha Contest

Gupta’s withdrawal from the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat contest, citing his father’s serious medical condition, preceded his resignation from the party. Despite being a national spokesperson for the Congress party, Gupta chose to prioritize his family’s health concerns over his political aspirations.

Upcoming Elections

With all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat scheduled for polling in a single phase on May 7, Gupta’s departure from the Congress party adds a new dimension to the state’s political landscape.

The ensuing period leading up to the elections on June 4 will likely witness further developments in Gujarat’s political arena.
