Gujarat: These firms are ranked according to their value, which is described as market capitalization for listed businesses and valuations for non-listed companies.

Gujarat’s Corporate Powerhouse:

According to the ‘2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500’ report, Gujarat boasts at least 31 of India’s most valued companies, collectively worth Rs 14.7 trillion. 

These companies represent a significant portion of India’s corporate landscape, showcasing Gujarat’s economic prowess and business acumen.

Adani Group’s Dominance:

Leading the pack is Adani Enterprises, valued at Rs 2.6 trillion, followed closely by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone with Rs 1.7 trillion and Adani Green Energy with Rs 1.4 trillion. 

The Adani Group, with its eight companies, commands a combined value of Rs 9.9 trillion, comprising 4.3% of the total value of the top 500 companies.

Resilience Amidst Challenges:

Despite facing a significant decline in value during the review period, the Adani Group witnessed a remarkable resurgence following a favorable Supreme Court ruling. 

This rebound saw the group regain Rs 4,72,636 crore in value, underscoring its resilience and ability to navigate challenging market conditions.

Sectoral Distribution and Key Players:

The healthcare sector emerges as a frontrunner from Gujarat, led by companies like Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Intas Pharmaceuticals, and Zydus Lifesciences. Energy and Chemicals sectors also make significant contributions, reflecting Gujarat’s diversified industrial landscape.

Women Employment and Corporate Social Responsibility:

Noteworthy is the presence of women-friendly workplaces, with companies like Welspun India, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, and Zydus Lifesciences leading the way in female employment.

This underscores a commitment to diversity and inclusivity within Gujarat’s corporate sector.

West Bengal’s Corporate Footprint:

While Gujarat leads the pack, West Bengal also commands a substantial presence in India’s corporate landscape, with 25 companies from the state featured in the report. 

These companies, valued at Rs 10.9 trillion, contribute significantly to West Bengal’s economic development and growth.

Top Companies from West Bengal:

ITC emerges as West Bengal’s most valuable company, followed by Britannia Industries and Shree Cement. These “Big 3” exemplify West Bengal’s strengths across diverse sectors, contributing to the state’s economic vibrancy and prosperity.
