Gujarat govt launches doorstep life certificate service for pensioners

Doorstep life certificate service: The Gujarat government has facilitated the process by presenting doorstep services to handle the issues elderly pensioners face when commuting for life certificate verification.

Free Biometric Verification to Aid Over 5 Lakh Elderly Citizens

In a major relief for elderly and disabled pensioners, the Gujarat government has partnered with India Post to offer doorstep life certificate verification service—eliminating the need for physical visits to banks or government offices.

MoU Signed with Indian Postal Department

The initiative stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Gujarat government and the Indian Postal Department, enabling free home-based biometric verification through India Post and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB). The effort is expected to benefit more than 5 lakh pensioners across the state.

How the Service Works

Pensioners can request a home visit from the IPPB team or coordinate through their local post office. Using mobile technology, postal officials will collect key biometric details such as:

  • Bank account and mobile number

Once verified, a Digital Life Certificate will be issued instantly and sent to the relevant pension authority.

Also Available for Out-of-State Residents

Pensioners from Gujarat currently residing in other states can still use the service by reaching out to their nearest post office or local postman.

Existing Methods Remain Available

The state government clarified that this is an optional service, and existing verification methods at banks or pension offices will continue to be valid.
