North Gujarat earthquake: 3.4 magnitude strikes; no damage reported

The North Gujarat earthquake, with an epicentre around Vav in Banaskantha district, was recorded at 3:35 a.m. on May 3, 2025.

Epicentre Near Vav in Banaskantha District

A minor 3.4 magnitude north Gujarat earthquake in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) based in Gandhinagar.

The tremor occurred at 3:35 am, with its epicentre located near Vav in Banaskantha district, approximately 27 km east-north-east (ENE) of the town, and at a depth of 4.9 km, the ISR stated.

No Casualties or Damage Reported

District authorities confirmed that there were no casualties or property damage resulting from the tremor.

High Earthquake Risk Zone

Gujarat is considered a high-risk seismic zone, with records of nine major earthquakes over the past two centuries, according to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA).

One of the most devastating events was the 2001 Kutch earthquake, which remains the third largest and second most destructive in Indian history. That tragedy claimed nearly 13,800 lives and left over 1.67 lakh injured, causing near-total destruction in several towns and villages.
