Parimal Nathwani, Rajya Sabha member and president of the Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA), unveiled the inaugural Gujarat Super League (GSL) trophy during a ceremony attended by team owners and sponsors. 

The GSL, initiated by GSFA, marks the introduction of the first franchise-based football league in Gujarat.

Participating Teams and Sponsors at Gujarat Super League: 

The GSL features six teams, each representing a different city in Gujarat. The participating teams include the Ahmedabad Avengers, Gandhinagar Giants, Karnavati Knights, Saurashtra Spartans, Surat Strikers, and Vadodara Warriors. 

These teams are sponsored by prominent businesses and entrepreneurs from the state, demonstrating their commitment to football development in Gujarat.

Objective and Growth Potential: 

Nathwani emphasized that the GSL aims to promote football and foster its growth in Gujarat, acknowledging the need to elevate the sport’s popularity in the state. 

With plans to expand the league to 12 teams over the next few years, the GSL represents a significant step towards enhancing football’s presence in Gujarat.

Support from Government and Sponsors:

The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) and the Sports Authority of Gujarat are the GSL’s main sponsors and associate sponsors, respectively. 

This collective support underscores the shared commitment to elevate football in the state and create opportunities for local talent to thrive.

Format and Prizes at Gujarat Super League: 

The GSL will feature a group stage, with teams competing against each other before advancing to the final. 

The league, scheduled to commence on May 1, will culminate with the final match on May 12. 

The league winners will get Rs 11 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded Rs 5 lakh, encouraging fierce competition and rewarding excellence.
