Deputy Collector JP Zala confirmed the closures and issued alerts for low-lying areas. He stated, “Three straight highways in Junagadh have been closed. Six major district connecting roads have also been closed. The situation will be under control once the water level goes down.”

Heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad led to the formation of a massive sinkhole in Shela, resembling a meteor strike crater. The middle of the road caved in, creating a large water-filled cavity. This incident highlights the severe impact of the heavy rains on infrastructure.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continuous rainfall across Gujarat for the next five days, with an orange alert issued for the districts of Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, and Dadra Nagar Haveli. IMD Scientist Pradeep Sharma stated, “There will be rains in all parts of Gujarat in the next five days. A warning for very heavy rain is issued for Saurashtra and Kutch for today.”
Incident at Rajkot Airport Due to Heavy Rainfall in Gujarat:
In another incident related to the heavy rains, part of the canopy at the passenger pickup and drop-off area of Rajkot airport collapsed. The canopy broke during maintenance work to remove water accumulation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Rajkot International Airport authorities stated that the area was cordoned off immediately upon discovering the water accumulation.
