Controversial Islamic Cleric Mufti Salman Azhari Sparks Legal Action in Gujarat

An Islamic cleric, Mufti Salman Azhari, hailing from Mumbai, found himself in legal trouble in Junagadh, Gujarat after a video of his alleged inflammatory speech circulated widely on social media.

The incident unfolded at an event organized by two individuals, Mohammad Yousuf Malek and Azim Habib Odedara, who the police have since apprehended.

Attempt to Trace the Mufti Salman Azhari:

Superintendent of Police Harshad Mehta disclosed that the authorities are actively seeking the whereabouts of Mufti Salman Azhari.

The controversial speech took place during an event at an open ground near the ‘B’ division police station in Junagadh on Wednesday night.

Legal Charges Filed Against the Cleric and Organizers:

In response to the video’s virality, law enforcement registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Azhari and the local organizers Malek and Odedara.

The charges filed under the Indian Penal Code include Section 153B (promoting enmity between different religious groups) and Section 505 (2) (making statements conducive to public mischief).

Misrepresentation of Event Purpose:

According to Mehta, the organizers had obtained permission from the police by stating that Azhari would speak about religion and raise awareness about de-addiction.

However, the cleric deviated from the approved topic and delivered an inflammatory speech, leading to the arrests of Malek and Odedara. Efforts are underway to apprehend Azhari as the investigation unfolds.
