R’Bonney Gabriel, a 28-year-old American from Texas, was named Miss Universe 2022 at a ceremony in New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to the official Miss Universe website, Gabriel was a Houston-born and -bred high school volleyball player.

Divita Rai, an Indian competitor who advanced to the top 16 stages of the competition, was also one of them. The pageant’s first runner-up was Miss Venezuela, and the second was Miss Dominican Republic.
According to the official Miss Universe website, Gabriel was a high school volleyball player who was born and raised in Houston. By age fifteen, she had a strong interest in fashion, textiles, and fabrics.
By age fifteen, she was interested in clothing, fabrics, and textiles. She resumed her studies at the University of North Texas, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design and a minor in fibres.

Through her business, the clothing line R’bonney Nola, she retorted that she focuses on lowering pollution and using recycled materials. She also disclosed that she teaches sewing to women who have survived domestic violence and human trafficking.
She serves as the head sewing instructor at a non-profit design studio called Magpies & Peacocks in Houston. The non-profit organisation shares Gabriel’s belief that fashion can be a force for good by promoting sustainability and community impact.
She was also given the Gucci Changemakers title in recognition of her work. Her passion for design is evident on her Instagram pages, where she frequently posts about her work.
Gabriel, who takes great pride in her culture, is the first Filipino-American to win this award. She paid homage to Mara Clara through one of her outfits at the Miss USA 2022 preliminary competition.

She was quoted as saying, “My dad came to America from the Philippines on a college scholarship with around $20 in his pocket,” in an interview with ABC News. He desired to create a fresh start for himself.
