The Hindi film Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh will premiere on January 26 in observance of Republic Day before his 75th death anniversary on January 30.
Additionally, Tanisha Santoshi, who has a major role in the upcoming film, debuts the day after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, will be introduced.
A different version of Indian history is depicted in Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming film, in which Mahatma Gandhi survives Nathuram Godse’s attempt to kill him and later, after recovering, meets the assassin.
Before his 75th death anniversary on January 30, the Hindi movie Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh will premiere on January 26 in honour of Republic Day. When Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, starring Shahid Kapoor, was released in 2013, it was the director’s first release in ten years.
There aren’t any major stars in Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh. Deepak Antani portrays Mahatma Gandhi, while actor Chinmay Mandlekar plays Nathuram Godse.
Rajkumar admitted that he purposefully avoided using the “stars” he had previously collaborated with for this movie in favour of actors who could effectively portray the roles. Chinmay, a Marathi actor, and Deepak, a Gujarati actor, are suitable for the film.
In an interview with Mid-Day, the director discussed the historical drama that imagines the potential conversations between Gandhi and Godse.
He explained his decision to present both sides, “Both Gandhi and Godse have my sympathy. Gandhi received praise, but there were also criticisms. Why he wasn’t more adamant about averting Bhagat Singh’s execution has been questioned to this day.
Godse also made a statement during his trial after killing Gandhi, but it was suppressed for decades. Nobody was aware of his remarks until recently. I think he was treated unfairly by that. He had something to say in defence, and people ought to know it.”
The film’s purpose, he continued, “is to provide a platform for Godse to express his viewpoint and for Gandhi to refute the accusations.
Without favouring anyone, we are providing both sides. The director insisted that he was not endorsing any ideology and only making the movie “honestly” rather than for any particular ideology.
Tanisha Santoshi, who plays a pivotal role in the upcoming movie, which comes out the day after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, will also be introduced.
The movie also marks Anuj Saini’s acting debut. AR Rahman composed the music for Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh, produced by Manila Santoshi.
