For the 2021-22 academic year, applications for Harvard University’s undergraduate college for daily decisions rose by more than 42 per cent.
The Ivy League School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, says Monday in an emailed statement, Harvard filed a history of more than 57,000 applications from high school students requesting admission for the fall term.
The pandemic has altered how students apply to universities. At Harvard as well as hundreds of other selective colleges, which dropped the requirement as testing centres were closed to curb the spread of Covid-19, they have no longer need to present test scores.
Ivy League member Cornell University reported separately on Monday that current high school juniors with their requests for the 2022-23 academic year would not be needed to apply standardized test results.
Traditional campus visits have also been curtailed by the health crisis, helping students evaluate where to register, so they flock to the bigger names said David Rion, college guidance director for the private Loomis Chaffee School at Windsor, Connecticut.
“You’ve got a lot of students conducting word of mouth as well as online research,” Rion said. “In that situation, it is easy for all the rich to get richer.

Owing to the deluge of submissions, the eight members from the Ivy League, namely the universities of Harvard, Yale as well as Princeton, decided to delay the publication date of their joint decision till April 6.
Applications from Princeton increased 15% to even more than 37,000, spokesman Michael Hotchkiss reported. In order to allow students as well as schools more time to complete the application, the school removed the earlier round this year he stated.
