As per the Union ministry of health
and family welfare, India had the highest-ever single-day increase with 261,500
new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 1501 deaths, bringing the
total to 14,788,109 and the death toll to 177,150. The figure of active cases
throughout the nation was 1801316 at 9 a.m., according to the health ministry’s
dashboard.
As per the Health Ministry data:
After 138,423 Covid-19 patients being recovered in the last 24 hours, the health ministry announced that 12,809,643 people have healed from the disease. So far, India has vaccinated over 110 million citizens.

Strict lockdown in many cities and rural areas:
Several towns, as well as rural areas,
have been placed in a state of emergency. As these metropolitan regions
struggle to contain the Covid-19 surge, most northern, central, including
western Indian cities, along with the capital Delhi and financial hub Mumbai,
will remain under tight weekend curfews.
On Saturday, Delhi recorded the
largest single-day increase since the outbreak began, with more than 24,000
instances, and Mumbai and Pune stayed among the worst-affected cities in the
country and the world, with more over 80,000 infected cases.
In an effort to contain the outbreak
of the pandemic in the country’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh, a strict Sunday
lockdown was enforced, which will be implemented every week till May 15.

Covid-19 cases, India is seeing an increase in hospitalizations as healthcare
systems in many states and cities buckle under the strain. Medical oxygen, ICU
beds, and also Remdesivir injections are in short supply in Madhya
Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, as well as other states where Covid-19 is causing
an increase in cases and deaths.
The government has urged people to
stay at home in order to stop Covid-19 from spreading. Experts have also
advised people to return to the Covid-19 relevant norms, which they strictly
followed at the start of the pandemic in 2020, in order to combat the recent
increase in cases.
