past 13.85 lakh, at 13, 85,522 infections. Deaths in the country were 705, due

Three states hint at community
transmission:
Three Indian states have hinted
that the rapid rise in infections can be attributed to community transmission,
but there still seems to be a reluctance to admit that the novel COVDI-19
pandemic has entered that particular stage. Last week, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi
Vijayan said that
community transmission could be happening is some coastal areas. Earlier,
Telangana too hinted at the possibility of community transmissions, after
reporting a surge in positive infections in the past few weeks. Maharashtra
Health Secretary also refrained from ruling out community transmission and said
that the matter was within the purview of the Indian
Council of Medical Research and
that the states are duly following its’ guidelines.
Globally, over 16.1 million
people have been infected with the fatal virus, of which more than 645,000
deaths have been registered.
