India’s coronavirus tally surges to 16,95,988 with 36,511 deaths. Minister G Kishan Reddy asks states to follow the “Delhi model”.

India reported its steepest single-day rise in the total number of Coronavirus cases on Saturday, as fresh 57,117 COVID-19 infections were registered in the last 24 hours. This biggest single-day count has taken the nation’s coronavirus tally to 16,95,988. Deaths in the country also continued to rise as new 764 deaths were reported in the country yesterday, meaning that the death toll has surged to 36,511. Although the fatality rate of the country further dropped to 2.15 percent, which very low as compared to other coronavirus affected nations. The tally of patients that recovered from the deadly disease rose to 10,94,374, and the active coronavirus cases increased to 565,103. The recovery rate in India has improved to 64.53 percent as per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Unlock 3.0 commences as Tamil Nadu and Bihar extend lockdown:

Cases in India have risen over the 50,000-mark since the central government announced Unlock 3.0 guidelines. The third phase begins today, with the central government revoking the night curfew. It also allowed yoga institutes and gymnasiums to reopen from August 5. However, many states have issued their own set of guidelines which imposed restrictions on the movement in the night or a complete lockdown. Among them, were Tamil Nadu and Bihar that extended the statewide lockdown. On Thursday, it was announced that Bihar will remain under lockdown till 16 August, and Tamil Nadu till August 31. Union Minister from Home (Telangana), G Kishan Reddy, appealed the state government to increase the number of testing and also urged all the states to emulate the Delhi model which has shown 84 percent recovery from the deadly virus.

Globally, more than 17.6 million people have been infected with the fatal virus, and over 679,000 people have succumbed to death due to it.
