Indian-American community peace rally against Khalistani in San Francisco

The diaspora assembled outside the facility on Friday and raised the tricolour in protest at the incident, which occurred days after several pro-Khalistan protesters vandalized the Indian Consulate in San Francisco.

In favour of India’s unity, many Indian Americans attended the peace demonstration held outside its consulate in San Francisco. 

The Indian-American community danced and held the US flag beside the tricolour while chanting “Vande Mataram” and other chants in opposition to the divisive aspects of Sikh separatism. 

A few Khalistan supporters were also in the crowd, singing separatist slogans, but local police made sure there were no violent events, according to the news agency PTI.

On Sunday, supporters of the separatist movement in Khalistan vandalized the consulate building and raised flags in its honour, which the consular personnel later removed. NRIs responded angrily to the incident and demanded that those responsible be punished harshly.

By congregating outside the office on Tuesday and calling for strict action, the Indian diaspora in London also voiced its strong opposition to the advocates of Khalistan taking down the tricolour at the Indian High Commission in the UK.

The most recent of many such incidents happened on Thursday when pro-Khalistan and anti-India graffiti was spray-painted on a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Canada. 

In the Ontario town of Hamilton, the vandalism occurred close to the City Hall. While this was happening, supporters of Khalistan gathered outside the Australian parliament in Canberra to demonstrate against the police crackdown on radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his Punjabi allies.

India formally protested the embassy attack on Monday with the US Charge Affaires in Delhi. Asper the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the US government was also requested to take the appropriate actions to prevent the occurrence of similar occurrences in the future.
