India-Canada row: BLS International shares fall by 3%

BLS International shares: The ban on visa services had raised worries that the new move was linked to the recent escalation in the Canada-India diplomatic row.

BLS International shares dropped over 3 percent in Thursday’s trade after the firm said due to operational bases, Indian visa services in Canada are stopped till further notice.

The firm, which offers visa, passport, consular, e-governance, attestation, biometric, e-visa, and retail assistance, said the result of the development would be minor on its financials as the Canada visa issuance accounts for less than 2 percent of its entire annual earnings.

On its Canada website, the firm said: “Important notice from Indian Mission: Due to operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended till further notice. Please keep checking the BLS website for further updates.”

The ban on visa services raised worries that the new move was linked to the recent escalation in the Canada-India diplomatic row.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau recently told the involvement of the government of India in the murder of a Khalistani separatist based in Canada based on ‘credible allegations’ and even asked an Indian diplomat to flee the nation.

India, in its answer, denied the ‘unsubstantiated’ allegations and, in a tit-for-tat action, it requested a senior Canada diplomat to quit India within five days.
