India’s COVID-19 tally crosses the 11-lakh-mark; Congress Minister Aslam Shaikh tests positive.

India for the first time recorded daily cases count more than 40,000 in a single-day; Maharashtra’s Cabinet Minister revealed on Twitter that he is positive of the Coronavirus. 

In a startling single-day spike, the biggest ever, India recorded fresh 40,425 COVID-19 infections on Monday. The mammoth caseload pushed India’s Coronavirus tally to cross the 11-lakh-mark, which now is 11,18,043. It is also for the first time that cases in India have gone past the 40 K mark. In just 3 days, India went from 10 lakh cases to 11 lakh cases. 

Coronavirus active case count rises.

The total number of deaths in the country also showed a huge spike with fresh 681 deaths, which took the death toll to 27,497 as per the data released by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry. In the last 24 hours, the recovery rate in India fell marginally to 62.62 percent. Despite the total number of recovered patients has increased beyond the 7-lakh mark, the tally of active cases has risen rapidly to 390,459.  

Congress Cabinet Minister Aslam Shaikh tests COVID-19 positive:

Malad’s Aslam Shaikh, Senior Congress leader and Maharashtra Cabinet Minister, tested positive for COVID-19 virus. The minister revealed the news of his infection on his Twitter and has urged people to maintain social distancing norms and take the necessary precautions. He said that he feels good & hopes to recovers as soon as he can. He is now the fourth Minister of the Uddhav Thackeray-led government to get infected with the fatal virus. 

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state of India, and recorded over 9500 tests yesterday with 258 causalities. Globally, over 14.5 million cases have been registered with 606,173.
