The Supreme Court grills the Uttar Pradesh
Government over the killing of Vikas Dubey, deems it as a clear failure of not
holding the law in the state.
On Monday, The Supreme
Court of India heard
a plea of Kanpur gangster Vikas Dubey’s encounter and reminded the Uttar Pradesh government of its responsibilities of
upholding the law in the state. The bench led by CJI S A Bobde said,” It is
your duty. We are appalled from the fact that such a person was released on
bail despite all he has done. This is a clear failure, we need a clear report
on all these orders.”
An ex-Supreme Court judge to be
added in the inquiry committee:
The Apex Court recommended the government to add an ex-Supreme Court judge a retired police officer in the inquiry committee set up by the bench to investigate the mysterious encounter. The main court on record acknowledged that it knows the difference between the Hyderabad rape-murder encounter and Vikas Dubey’s killing.
UP govt reworks its panel for
probing the Vikas Dubey’s encounter:
On behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta accepted the court’s suggestion and the UP government has reworked the committee to investigate the encounter with adding a former police officer and an ex-Supreme Court judge on its panel. Lawyers Ghanshyam Upadhyay and Anoop Prakash Awasthi filed two petitions seeking a court monitored investigation in the killing of Vikas Dubey and the court was hearing these pleas.
Cannot be termed fake encounter
says UP Police:
Meanwhile, the UP police
reiterated their stance to the court and said that the Vikas Dubey killing cannot be termed as “Fake
Encounter”. As per the
police, when the dreaded gangster was being brought to Kanpur from Indore, the
police vehicle overturned in a car accident and Dubey tried to escape with
police guns. Dubey also continuously kept pelting the bullets towards the
injured policemen and eventually was shot in retaliation fire.
