Complaint Filed Against Nishu Aazad, Father Over Religious Post Row

A fresh legal complaint has emerged in the ongoing controversy surrounding influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj’s arrest, this time targeting student protester Nishu Aazad and her father, Sanjay Aazad. The complaint, filed at Delhi’s Cyber Police Station, accuses the father-daughter duo of posting content on social media that allegedly disrespects Hindu deities, including Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Durga.

Lawyer Seeks FIR Under BNS and IT Act Provisions

Supreme Court advocate Amita Sachdeva, who filed the complaint, has requested that police register an FIR under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with acts intended to hurt religious sentiments and promoting enmity between groups, respectively. She has also invoked relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Sachdeva has additionally asked authorities to preserve digital evidence, including the posts themselves, IP address logs, and records from the devices used to publish them. According to news agency PTI, Sachdeva described herself as a practising Hindu who came across the posts while at the Supreme Court premises in New Delhi, and said the content remains publicly accessible and has caused offence to her and other Hindus.

Backdrop of a Wider Public Dispute

This development follows a separate and highly charged controversy involving Bhardwaj, who reportedly claimed in an interview to have physically assaulted Sanjay Aazad, allegedly causing a skull injury. That claim triggered public protests and drew political criticism, eventually leading to Bhardwaj’s arrest. The latest complaint against the Aazads adds a new dimension to a case already drawing significant attention across social and political circles in Delhi.
