Jadeja Becomes First Indian to Play 50 WTC Matches

Ravindra Jadeja etched his name into cricket history on Sunday, becoming the first Indian cricketer to appear in 50 World Test Championship (WTC) matches. The 37-year-old all-rounder from Jamnagar reached this milestone during the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

A Standout WTC Career

Jadeja’s numbers across his 50 WTC appearances highlight his value as a genuine all-rounder. He has scored 2,632 runs at an impressive best of 175 not out, including five centuries, while also picking up 160 wickets with a best bowling performance of 7 for 42. He has claimed five-wicket hauls on six occasions and taken 18 catches, placing him ahead of teammates like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravichandran Ashwin in terms of WTC appearances for India.

Debut Cap and Team Changes

The milestone coincided with a notable moment for Indian cricket, as spin-bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain made his Test debut, coming in for Kuldeep Yadav, who was ruled out due to an infection. In a heartwarming gesture, Jadeja personally handed Jain his India debut cap during the pre-match team huddle.

India won the toss for the second consecutive Test in the series and chose to bat first. The visitors currently lead the two-match series 1-0, having secured a commanding 165-run victory in the series opener at Galle.

India fielded a strong XI featuring Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, captain Shubman Gill, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, debutant Saransh Jain, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. Sri Lanka, led by Dhananjaya de Silva, will be looking to level the series and deny India a series sweep on home soil.
