PIB Debunks Claim of Modi’s Weekly Instagram Live

A post claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would begin hosting a weekly Instagram Live session every Sunday at 8 PM to interact with young people has been declared false by the Press Information Bureau (PIB). The government’s fact-checking unit clarified on social media that no such announcement has been made and urged citizens not to circulate the misleading claim further.

Origins of the Viral Claim

The rumour gained traction after Modi posted an Instagram Reel late on July 23, addressing the Gen Z protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar. In the clip, he referred to students as “friends,” a departure from his customary greeting of “mitron,” and spoke about tougher measures against examination paper leaks ahead of a Cabinet meeting. The video reportedly drew an enormous number of views within a day, fuelling speculation online that a regular live-streaming schedule was in the works.

PIB’s Clarification

Responding to the circulating post, PIB stated plainly that the claim is fake and that the Prime Minister has made no commitment to a recurring Instagram Live session. The bureau’s fact-check team has been actively countering a wave of manipulated and AI-generated content linked to the recent protests, including doctored videos attributed to Modi and other ministers. Citizens have been advised to verify such claims through official government channels before sharing them and can report suspicious content to PIB’s dedicated fact-check helpline or email address.
