IndiGo Flight to Leh Turns Back After Technical Issue

IndiGo Delhi-Leh Flight Returns Mid-Air Due to Technical Snag, No Emergency Declared

An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Leh was forced to return to the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday morning after the crew encountered a technical issue that imposed operational restrictions on landing in Leh. The Airbus A320-251N aircraft, operating as flight 6E 2006, had taken off from Delhi at 6:30 am before turning back mid-air.

In an official statement, IndiGo confirmed that no emergency was declared during the flight. The aircraft returned as a precautionary measure, and all passengers and crew landed safely in Delhi.

“IndiGo flight 6E 2006 operating from Delhi to Leh on 19 June 2025 returned to origin due to a technical issue which caused operational restrictions to land in Leh. As per procedures, the pilot returned to Delhi,” the airline said.

The flight reportedly had around 180 people on board, including crew members. According to airline sources, the issue was not critical but warranted strict protocol adherence due to Leh’s high-altitude operational requirements. The airline emphasized that safety remained its top priority.

“The aircraft is undergoing necessary maintenance before resuming operations. In the meanwhile, an alternative aircraft has been arranged to fly the customers to Leh. We regret the inconvenience caused to the customers and remain committed to the safety and security of our customers and crew,” IndiGo added in the statement.

The airline also expressed regret for the disruption caused to passengers and said that arrangements were being made to minimize delays and ensure that travelers reach their destination safely.

Another Minor Technical Issue on Wednesday

This incident follows a similar technical issue reported on June 18, when another IndiGo flight, 6E 6313, operating from Delhi to Raipur, experienced a delay in opening its aircraft door upon arrival due to a minor technical glitch.

IndiGo clarified that the delay occurred while following standard safety checks, and at no point was passenger safety compromised.

“IndiGo flight 6E 6313, operating from Delhi to Raipur, experienced a delay in opening the aircraft door upon arrival on June 18, 2025, due to a minor technical issue. Following standard safety procedures, the door was opened after necessary checks were completed,” said an IndiGo spokesperson.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding. At IndiGo, passenger safety and adherence to protocol remain our highest priorities,” the spokesperson added.

The recent events highlight IndiGo’s protocol-driven approach to technical snags, with safety measures and standard operating procedures strictly followed to avoid risk and ensure smooth recovery from unexpected issues.
