ISRO chief S Somanath big statement on Chandrayaan-3 design

ISRO chief S Somanath big statement on Chandrayaan-3 design

S Somanath, the chief officer of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), stated on Monday that the space agency constructed Chandrayaan-3 using a failure-based approach.

S Somanath talks about Chandrayaan 2 and Chandrayaan-3:

“…In a nutshell, the problem in Chandrayaan-2 was that the ability to handle parameter variation or dispersion was severely limited.” So what we did this time was simply enlarge it. Take a look at the potential pitfalls.

So, instead of designing for success in Chandrayaan-2, we are designing for failure in Chandrayaan-3. What can fail, and how to defend it – this is the approach we’ve adopted,” he told ANI.

The date and time of the mission:

The Chandrayaan-3 mission will launch on July 14 at 2.35 p.m. it is expected to soft-land on the lunar surface on August 23 or 24.

The Chandrayaan-3 project continues the Chandrayaan-2 mission that showed the capability of safe landing and roaming on the moon’s surface.

Launch Vehicle Mark-III, a hybrid of propulsion, lander, and rover, will launch the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft.

“LVM3-M4/Chandrayaan-3 Mission: The launch has been rescheduled for July 14, 2023, at 2:35 p.m. IST from SDSC, Sriharikota,” ISRO announced in a tweet.

The ISRO mission is equipped with scientific instruments to investigate the thermo-physical features of lunar seismicity, lunar regolith, the lunar surface plasma environment, and elemental composition.

The lander will be able to soft-land at a predetermined lunar site and deploy the rover, which will conduct in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface while moving.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has invited civilians to witness the launch of the Chandrayaan-3 from the launch view gallery in Sriharikota.
