On Saturday, Sunrisers Hyderabad had an opportunity to make a case for the top-four spot in the Indian Premier League’s 13th season.

After an outstanding effort by the bowlers, they had limited Kings XI Punjab to 126 in 20 overs.

It looked like SRH had the match in hand as they only needed 27 runs with Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar on the plunge in 24 balls.

However, for just 14 runs, they lost their last seven wickets and let the match fall out of their hands.

SRH out of Playoff race:

This resulted in SRH being effectively knocked out from the IPL 2020 playoff race, as they now have just 8 points out of 11 games.

For SRH, it was a frustrating year as their shortcomings in the middle order contributed to their downfall.

SRH skipper David Warner said he felt that his side had been a little complacent during the chase after failing to chase down a small goal against KXIP.

Warner during the press conference after the match:

We got off to a nice start in terms of our batting, but we were really disappointed. We haven’t had the job done. In the centre, we probably got a little complacent, and we didn’t take the game on sufficiently as we had done in the previous game.

“I think we thought like we would easily get the runs, but then we kind of let the balls get forward of the runs,” Warner said at the press conference after the match.

It does (hurt a lot), okay. Our bowlers did a terrific job of restricting them. We took our foot off the pedal after we got to the start. It felt it was going to get tougher on that wicket once the spin came in.

It was about trying to place pressure on us in advance, negating the swing bowling, but unfortunately, we didn’t get over the line.

Oh, the new ball (his bowlers) bowled well. We didn’t have all the wickets upfront, but we got them back well.

Our bowlers implemented the plans well today and were very pleased with them. Only forget about this game and pass on.

Warner, however, appreciated the bowling performance of the team and that it was a “special day” for everyone.

“Our bowlers did an excellent job. During the middle era, they did an excellent job of taking wickets. It was a special day for them today, “he said.

KXIP now has 10 points with this win and is put in the points table in the fifth position. On the other hand, with 8 points, SRH is in the sixth position.
