Jailer 2 Becomes Fourth Highest-Grossing Tamil Film in Seven Days

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has stormed the box office, with the Jailer 2 box office collection reaching ₹576.45 crore worldwide before the end of its first week. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has become the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026.

Records Fall in Just Seven Days

The sequel has surpassed the lifetime collections of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan I and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie to claim its spot on the all-time Tamil list. While Jailer 2 has yet to beat the numbers of its 2023 predecessor, its pace suggests more milestones could follow. It has also overtaken Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion, which has earned ₹560 crore in 20 days, to take second place among Indian releases this year.

According to trade analysts, the film has registered a net domestic collection of ₹317.20 crore in India, with a gross collection of ₹371.45 crore. Overseas markets contributed another ₹205 crore, pushing the worldwide gross to ₹576.45 crore.

Rajinikanth Returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian

Rajinikanth reprises his role as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who protects his family from an idol smuggling ring while hiding the truth about his son’s death. Produced by Kalanithi Maran, the film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa and Rithvik. New additions to the cast include SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan.

With the worldwide tally still climbing, all eyes are now on how far the film can go in the coming weeks, and whether it can challenge the very top of the Tamil all-time list.
