Kim Jong-un to discuss new tactics, US provides nuclear submarines to South Korea
Kim Jong-un attended the meeting to reconsider defence strategies and the nation’s struggling economy.
According to state press reports, North Korea had a critical political meeting with leader Kim Jong-un in attendance to discuss boosting its struggling economy and reviewing defence plans in the face of rising tensions with rivals.
The enlarged plenary session of the ruling Workers’ Party’s central board came as the US sent a nuclear-powered submarine to South Korea in the partners’ latest show of strength against the North, which has ramped up its testing of nuclear-capable rockets to a record rate in recent months.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a call with South Korean foreign minister Park Jin ahead of his trip to China. The two discussed bilateral links, relations between China, South Korea, and North Korea.
Blinken and Park firmly criticised what they believe North Korea’s repeated provocations in a statement given by South Korea’s foreign ministry. The two approved the US, South Korea, and Japan should continue to advise China to play a productive role in the UN security council on denuclearisation.
During Friday’s first day of discussions, North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said party officers reviewed the nation’s economic campaigns for the first half of 2023 and had a foreign policy. Defence strategies talk to “cope with the changed international situation”.
