Kuldeep Yadav Makes T20 Asia Cup History

Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first player to take the most wickets in a single edition of the T20 Asia Cup. With 13 wickets in six innings at an impressive economy rate of 6.04, Yadav has been instrumental in India’s unbeaten campaign in the Asia Cup 2025.

Record-Breaking Performance Against Sri Lanka

The milestone came during India’s match against Sri Lanka, where Kuldeep delivered a magnificent spell of 1-31 in four overs. His economical bowling ensured Sri Lanka never gained significant momentum in their chase of 202 runs, ultimately losing to India in a thrilling Super Over finish. The dismissal of dangerous Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka proved to be the wicket that secured his place in the record books.

Breaking UAE’s Long-Standing Record

Kuldeep surpassed the previous record of 12 wickets held by UAE’s Amjad Javed from the 2016 edition. The record table now shows Kuldeep at the top with 13 wickets, followed by Javed’s 12 wickets, and Bangladesh’s Al Amin Hossain, UAE’s Mohammad Naved, and India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar all tied at 11 wickets from their respective campaigns.

Looking ahead to the final against Pakistan on September 26, Kuldeep will be India’s trump card. Having already excelled in two previous encounters against Pakistan in this tournament, including a player-of-the-match performance with figures of 3-18, he remains crucial to India’s title hopes.

With 82 wickets in 46 T20Is and 181 wickets in 113 ODIs, Kuldeep has established himself as one of India’s premier spinners across all formats.
